1478077 Apparatus for separating water from hydrocarbons FAUDI FEINBAU GmbH 4 July 1975 [15 July 1974] 28357/75 Heading B1D An apparatus for separating water from liquid hydrocarbons comprises a vessel having an inlet 4 for water contaminated hydrocarbon, an outlet 5 for purified hydrocarbon and an outlet 6 for separated water, which vessel includes a gravity settling section upstream of a filter separation section wherein the filter of the separation section is in the form of a truncated pyramid having at least three lateral faces whose axis is parallel to the line of flow of the contaminated hydrocarbon from the inlet and wherein an edge joining two lateral faces of the pyramid lies further from the lower side of the vessel than the other edges. The two upper lateral faces may be flat and the two lower faces corrugated. The filter may be metal gauze coated with p.t.f.e. or other water repellent material having a pore size of 10-60 microns.
