Abstract

1478009 Pharmaceutical compositions GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 11 June 1974 [2 April 1973] 15758/73 Heading A5B Substantially oil-free pharmaceutical creams comprise (a) a topically active anti-inflammatory steroid/except 21-chloro-9α-fluoro-#<SP>4</SP>- pregnene-11#, 16α, 17α-triol-3, 20-dione-16, 17-acetonide) in (b) a vehicle comprising a dispersion of a hydrophobic wax in an aqueous phase comprising water, a surface active agent, and a water-miscible hydroxylic solvent, the wax, water, solvent and surface active agent being present in amounts of 5 to 30%, 7 to 75%, 10 to 80% and 0.1 to 10% respectively, based on the weight of the composition. The steroid may be corticosteroid. The hydroxylic solvent may be a propanediol, a dipropylene glycol, a liquid polyethylene glycol or glycerol. The wax may be a waxy triglyceride, a waxy fatty alcohol, a saturated fatty acid, an acetoglyceride or beeswax. The surface active agent may be a polyoxyethylene ether or ester, sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate. The compositions may contain other drugs such as antibodies, local anaesthetics, bactericides or antifungal compounds.
