Abstract

1477870 Throttle pedal linkages REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 17 Sept 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 40575/74 Heading FIB [Also in Division B7] A vehicle is provided with a device for limiting its speed to a predetermined value, the device being provided with means for allowing the predetermined value to be exceeded and for allowing the speed to fall below such value when required. The device comprises a motor 1 having an output shaft 4 rotatable in two directions and which mounts a lever 3. A further lever 10 is mounted for relative rotation on lever 3 by a shaft 9 and portions 11 and 5 of the levers are urged into engagement by a spring 12 so that under normal conditions the levers move as a unit. A rod 15 pivoted to lever 3 is slidably received in a tube 22 which mounts a clevis 21 having elongate apertures 23 engaged by a shaft 20 on the accelerator pedal. Micro switches 6, (25), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) respectively mounted on portion 5 of lever 3 and clevis 21 are respectively held closed by portion 11 and shaft 20. A normally closed micro-switch 5 is positioned to be opened on clockwise rotation of lever 3. The motor is controlled by a computer 29 which compares signals from a wheel speed sensor 30 and a speed selector device 31 adjustable by the driver, the computer issuing signals to relay 27 or 28 when the predetermined speed is exceeded or under cut. A switch 34 allows the control circuit to be by-passed. With switch 34 in the by-pass position 34b current passes via lines 37, 38, 33 to relay 28 which causes motor 1 to rotate levers 3 and 10 clockwise thus withdrawing rod 15 until lever 3 contacts and opens switch 8. The control circuit is now out of use and the accelerator pedal is free to move regardless of vehicle speed. When switch 34 is moved to position 34a, and with switches 6, 25 closed, the computer is operative and compares signals from 30, 31. If the vehicle speed is greater than required computer 29 activates relay 27 and levers 3 and 10 are rotated to move rod 15 into tube 22 and thus into abutment with clevis 21 forcing the accelerator pedal up. Speed may then only be maintained or increased by extra pressure on the pedal which forces lever 10 anti-clockwise relative to lever 3 against the spring 12. Such action causes switch 6 to open and the computer to be deactivated. If the vehicle speed is less than required relay 28 is activated to cause withdrawal of rod 15, thus with foot pressure still applied to the pedal to maintain switch 25 closed the pedal will be depressed. If the driver suddenly wishes to reduce speed he lifts his foot from the pedal whereupon the return linkage 42 raises it and shaft 20 moves in elongate holes 23 opening switch 25 and cutting out the computer.
