Abstract

147,775. Apple, V. G. Jan. 22, 1917, [Convention date]. Coating.-Segments of commutators for dynamo-electric machines are formed by enlarging the terminals of the armature conductors, for example, by spraying metal. The pairs of armature conductors 13, 14 have their terminals 15, 16 straightened out to lie in parallel axial planes and are spaced by separators 17 of insulating material, such as micanite. A suitable metal-spraying machine is shown in Fig. 5. The wire from a coil 26 passes between carbon electrodes 27, 28 and the molten metal is blown into the interstices 23 between the insulating pieces by air under pressure introduced through the tube 30, to form integral segments 25.
