Abstract

1477417 Centrifugal strainer KRASNODAR POLITEKHNICHE INST and PENZEN ZAVOD KHIMICHE MASHINOSTROENIA 22 April 1975 16485/75 Heading BID A centrifugal strainer comprises a rotor (12 which carries an annular array of generally arcuate vanes 13 clamped between upper and lower discs (15, 14) and each extending radially outwards from a supporting pin 21 to an outer cylindrical wall 16 of the rotor (Fig. 1 not shown). Suspension (e.g. massecuite) is delivered by a funnel (9) into a distributor (27) on the rotor's lower disc and thrown outwards to slide across the sieves 18 which form the front walls of the vanes. Each vane comprises a corrugated imperforate rear wall 17, supporting sieve 18 and providing radial passages along which filtrate flows to discharge pipe (29) at the outer end of the vane. Wall 17 and sieve 18 comprise straight sections meeting at angles (Fig. 2), and sieve 18 is extended by an additional angle 35 formed therein and by a separate angle member 36 and outer end 37, each of these retarding outward flow of suspension to turn particles therein and improve separation. The inner end of wall 17 is bent to form an eye which slides axially over a pin 21. The inner end of sieve 18 is bent round a pin (31) and clamped to wall 17 by a U-section clip 32 (Fig. 3, not shown) with outwardly turned legs 33, 34. Sieve 18 is also clamped against wall 17 along upper and lower edges by respective strips 38 which are pivoted at outer ends 40 and secured by catches 41 at their inner ends. Member 36 is screwed to both strips 38. The arrangement facilitates replacement of worn sieves. Upper and lower flanges 24 (Fig. 5) carry projections 25 which engage in annular grooves in upper and lower discs (15, 14). Pin 21 extend between these discs which are clamped together by bolts 22. Each vane is supported against centrifugal force by a pin 21, a bolt 22, by projections 25 engaging their grooves and by its outer end engaging outer wall 16. Wall 16 has slots 28 for discharge of filter cake to outlet (10). Filtrate drains from pipes (29) into annular space (30) with outlet (11). The centrifuge rotary axis could be horizontal, instead of vertical as shown.
