Abstract

1477317 Resistance heating BEVERLEY Ltd 16 Dec 1974 [9 Nov 1973] 52041/73 Heading H5H [Also in Division B7] A tread band or lug, for treading or retreading a tyre, is provided with a built-in heating element consisting of wires, wire mesh, or an electrically conductive fabric, and the element is spaced from the surface to be bonded to a tyre carcass preferably by a distance of 1/16-3/16 inch. The element may be heated by connection to an electrical source, or by electrical induction. The drawing illustrates a lug of rubber with an embedded wire mesh 2, the edge of which are to be connected to an electrical source. After bonding of the lug, the connections are severed. Where the element is in the form of a plurality of wires, the latter may be pulled out of the tread material after bonding. The band or lug may be unvulcanized or pre-vulcanized, and in the latter case a bonding agent will be positioned between the band or lug and the tyre carcass.
