Abstract

1477005 Core constructions NIPPON DENSO CO Ltd 5 July 1974 29861/74 Heading H2A [Also in Division B3] A method of producing a stator stack 11, Fig. 6, for an electrical machine comprises stamping out a plurality of slots 2, Fig. 4, along one edge of a steel strip 1, deforming areas of the strip to provide a plurality of projections 6 on one side 5 of the strip and indentations 8, Fig. 5, on the opposite side 7 of the strip, winding the strip on edge to form a helix to align the slots and centre the projections and indentations of adjacent coils of the helix, resistance welding the individual coils together to form a stack 11, and pressing the end faces 12, 13 of the helix to form flat, parallel ends. Each indentation 8 comprises an annular recess 9 and a blind bore 10 having a corresponding shape to the projection 6 but having a different volume. After the slots 2 are aligned to form a plurality of grooves extending parallel to the axis of the helix, electrodes 14, 15 are disposed on the projections to weld the stack together.
