1476818 Olefinic aldehydes RHONE POULENC INDUSTRIES 29 July 1975 31781/75 Heading C2C Aldehydes of formula are prepared by selective hydrogenation of aldehydes of formula where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 6 are H or C 1-5 alkyl and R 5 is C 1-5 alkyl, in the presence of a palladium catalyst and at least 0À05%, based on the weight of the diene aldehyde, of a basic agent at least partially dissolved in an aqueousalcoholic medium, the alcohol being a C 1-5 aliphatic alcohol. Examples prepare citronellal from citral.
