Abstract

1476688 Colour television tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 July 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 33776/74 Heading H1D In a negative tolerance colour TV shadow mask three gun tube (Fig. 1, not shown) i.e. with triplets of phosphor strips B, R, G, narrower than their electron impact areas, on display screen 11 of glass face-plate 4, in order to allow free passage of ambient light 15 and thermal radiation from the mask the glass 4 is left uncoated between the stripes, which are backed by A1 film 13 connected at their ends to A1 film transverse bus strips for charge return. The A1 film is initially applied over the entire screen, covered by a PVA/ammonia bichromate resist: illumination of the end strips and, via the mark, of the three sets of phosphor stripes makes the resist insoluble, allowing that in the spaces 14 to be washed off in water, so that the Al may be etched off in acid NH 4 Cl/HgCl 2 solution. The end strips may alternatively be graphite. The resist may be PVA/FeCl 3 , becoming water soluble in the spaces on their illumination, allowing etching of the A1. In all cases organic material is finally burnt off.
