Abstract
1476659 Spark gaps SIEMENS AG 4 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 52536/74 Heading H1D [Also in Division H2] An electrical breakdown spark gap device comprises a pair of electrodes 33, 32 of the Rogowski pattern, so designed that the field strength at the edges thereof is smaller than that at the centres, the gap between the electrodes being surrounded by a radio-active radiation element 37 such as to irradiate uniformly the facing surfaces of the electrodes. The element 37 may include an isotope of carbon, boron, or silicon and the assembly housed in a container 35 filled with nitrogen, hydrogen or air or a mixture thereof which gases may be at higher than atmospheric pressure.
