Abstract

1476481 Filter tubes WHATMAN Ltd 11 Feb 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 03779/74 Headings B1D and BIT A filter tube comprises interlaced inorganic fibres selected from glass fibres, borosilicate glass fibres, and fibres of oxides of Al, Zr, or Si, or combinations thereof bonded together by an inorganic bonding agent selected from alumina, zirconia, silica, and combinations thereof. The filter tubes may be used alone or in conjunction with a porous support sheet or core. Other natural or synthetic organic or inorganic fibres, and binding agents e.g. epoxy resins, phenolformaldehyde resins may be incorporated in the tubes. The tubes have a high temperature resistance, and good resistance to oxidising acids and to organic solvents. They may be used for filtration of gases and liquids, excepting alkalis, hydrofluoric acid, fluoride salt solutions, and water having a temperature greater than about 65‹C.
