Abstract

1476306 Portable containers PLASTONA (JOHN WADDINGTON) Ltd 19 July 1974 [18 Aug 1973] 39167/73 Heading B8D A nestable thermoformed thin-walled plastics container 10 for carbonated beverages is provided with an everting recessed bottom, which has a relatively thicker central portion 26 and which, apart from this central portion, is pushed outwardly into a downwardly-directed configuration on the contents of the filled and sealed container reaching a predetermined pressure to define with the central portion a ring 28 on which the container is free-standing. The container, which is formed by a plug-assist thermo-forming process, may be of a single layer construction or may comprise an outer case provided with an inner lining web or coating. The outer case may be polystyrene, polyproylene or polyethylene and the lining may be of an acrylic, PVC, or a copolymer thereof or imposed by a coating of PVdC. An intermediate layer of ABS may be disposed between the case and lining. The container is of frusto-conical form to facilitate nesting of the empty containers and is sealed by a crimped-on metal lid 14 having a ring-pull opening device.
