Abstract
1475819 Staircase waveform generator COM. PAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 18 April 1975 [24 April 1974] 16043/75 Heading H3T In a staircase waveform generator a capacitor 2 is charged from a source 40 via a switch 4, the capacitor forming part of an integrator 1, 2, 3 the output of which is A.C. coupled via a capacitor 12 to a comparator 5 which compares changes in the integrator output with a reference. The output of comparator 5 is used to control the switch 4. The capacitor 2 is discharged by further switch 16 under control of signals at 17. As described, at the beginning of each staircase wave, transistor 4 is conductive so that capacitor 2 charges comparatively rapidly until the comparator 5 changes state, when transistor 4 is turned off. The output 30 then remains at its step value until capacitor 12 discharges sufficiently via resistor 11 to reset comparator 5 so that transistor 4 is again turned on. This sequence is repeated so that a staircase wave is generated at 30 until capacitor 2 is discharged by a pulse at 17 which turns on transistor 16. The time constant 11, 12 should be considerably greater than the effective time constant 1, 2.
