Abstract

1475742 Non-destructive testing apparatus BRITISH STEEL CORP 12 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 35840/74 Heading G1G In a non-destructive testing apparatus, exemplified by an ultrasonics system, having a test head 4 mounted for rotation by a rotation means 2 about a workpiece 12, exciters 8 activate an adjacent stationary detector 10 on operation of the rotation means with which the exciters are associated. As described ferrous studs 8 are fixed around a circumference of a rotor 2 so as to activate an eddy current detector 10 as they pass adjacent thereto. A reference angular position is obtained by a similar stud 9 in conjunction with another detector 11. The plate 5 on which the ultrasonic test heads 4 are mounted is also joined to the rotor 2. In a further embodiment (not shown), the studs 8, 9 are attached to a belt or chain drive used to rotate the heads 4 about the steel tube 12.
