1475409 Catheter assembly B SCHWARTZ 18 Dec 1974 54714/74 Heading A5R A catheter assembly comprises a catheter 12 secured in fluid-tight manner to a conical hub 16 the axis of which is disposed at an angle to the catheter axis so that an extension of the catheter axis is parallel to the surface of the socket, a conical member. 24 received within the hub 16 to locate in position a needle 20 extending through the catheter and protruding therefrom for piercing a patients skin. The member 24 is adapted to receive the end 30 of a flow system for feeding fluid to a patient or of a drainage tube, the member 24 being sufficiently resilient that it expands to fill the space left when the needle is removed from the catheter to prevent leakage therethrough. The distal end of member 24 may have a slit for location round the needle. A hollow needle 20 for puncturing the skin of a patient and connecting with an aspirating device may be removably positioned in the assembly.
