Abstract

1475387 Halogeno-ethers HOECHST AG 7 Aug 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 34856/74 Heading C2C 1 - Chloro - 2,2,2 - trifluoroethyl - difluoromethyl ether is prepared by reacting 1-chloro- 2,2,2 - trifluoromethyl - methyl ether with elementary chlorine to give 1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl - dichloromethyl ether and converting this compound by fluorination into 1- chloro - 2,2,2 - trifluoroethyl - difluoromethyl ether. The chlorination may be carried out in two steps, the first step producing the novel 1- chloro - 2,2,2 - trifluoroethyl - chloromethyl ether which is isolated by fractional distillation, and the second step giving 1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl dichloromethyl ether.
