1475241 Benzodiazocine derivatives DDSA PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd 9 April 1976 [19 April 1975] 16287/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of general Formula I in which R<SP>1</SP> represents hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or lower alkyl thio, R<SP>2</SP> represents lower alkyl, R<SP>3</SP> represents lower alkyl or benzyl, A represents a group or a group and R<SP>4</SP> represents phenyl, (lower alkyl)-phenyl, nitrophenyl, halophenyl or pyridyl; "lower" signifies C 1 -C 6 . Addition salts with pharmacologically accepted acids are also claimed. Compounds of Formula I or their salts may be obtained by treating a compound of formula with an alcohol R<SP>2</SP>OH, e.g. by refluxing with a molar excess of the alcohol for 1-6 hours or by treating a compound of formula with alcohol R<SP>2</SP>OH, e.g. by passing a solution in the alcohol over a basic ion-exchange resin. The invention is exemplified by 8-chloro-2- methoxy - 2 - methylamino - 6 - phenyl - 1,5- benzodiazocine-5-oxide, and the corresponding compound with an ethoxy instead of a methoxy group. The compounds may be used in therapeutic compositions.
