Abstract

A cured epoxy resin-containing synthetic resin coating is suitable as durable, heat- and chemicals-resistant, electroinsulating coatings for tubes and containers made of metal. This synthetic resin coating contains a solid epoxy resin based on 4,4'-diphenylolpropane and/or 4,4'-diphenylolmethane and epichlorohydrin, and from 1 to 12% by weight, based on the epoxy resin present in the coating, of at least one compound of the formula I or II <IMAGE> and furthermore flow-control agents, thixotropic agents and optionally also pigments. In the heterocyclic rings of the formulae I and II, the radicals R are alkyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, aromatic hydrocarbon radicals having 6 to 10 carbon atoms or benzyl radicals. The compounds of the formulae I and II act as crosslinking components. The synthetic resin can be applied as a solid powder to the heated metal substrate, where it flows out to give a uniform film. This film can be cured without a further working step utilising the heat capacity of the metal. This achieves a significant saving in work.
