Abstract

1474751 Measuring angles FERRANTI Ltd 23 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 33732/74 Heading G1N Apparatus for measuring the angle of inclination #, Fig. 1, at the lower end of a marine riser 13 connecting a floating drilling platform 10 to the drilling location 12 on the seabed 11 comprises two accelerometer assemblies 15, 16, Fig. 2, fixed to the riser 13 close to each other and close to the flexible joint 14. Each accelerometer assembly contains two accelerometers measuring force components along two axes X, Y each perpendicular to the main axis of the riser 13. It is shown that when # is small, the components of # along the X and Y axes can be calculated from the four accelerometer signals and the known dimensions r and d.
