Abstract
1474277 Laser amplifier H HUGHES 30 July 1974 [10 Aug 1973] 33601/74 Heading H1C A laser beam 1 is successively and progressively increased in size and power by being passed through a succession of excited laser media 2 each medium having an anti-reflection coating on its input surface, and also having associated therewith means to reflect the laser beam so that the emergent beam is directed on to the next element. The medium may be gaseous, liquid, or solid, and the reflector may be a dielectric or metallic mirror 3 attached to, or separated from the laser medium and in the latter case not necessarily parallel. The pumping energy source 4 may be a flash tube or photo-diode, and a reflecting surface, which could be the main beam reflector, may be employed to facilitate multiple passage of the pumping energy through the medium. Two media 2<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, may be associated with a common reflector.
