1474241 Dress fastenings DENNISON MFG CO Ltd 4 April 1974 [4 April 1973 (2)] 15030/74 Heading A3H [Also in Divisions Dl and E2] Flexible plastics fasteners 61, Fig. 2, having a transverse tag 61A, 61B at each end are provided in a continuous ladder-shaped stock, Fig. 1, which may be cut to provide separate fasteners. The end-tags and linking filament may be of various cross-sectional shapes. The fasteners may be made by moulding or stamping (Figs. 49-51, not shown), they may be strengthened by stretching, (Figs. 52, 53, not shown), and they may be stored by rolling or folding, in a cassette (Figs. 11, 12, not shown). The fasteners may be used to sew fabric, Fig. 14, in which stock 59 from cassette 65 is fed by wheel 82, where it is cut off by plate 87 and then slid to needles 91, Fig. 17. The needle plungers 103 then drive the end-tags of the fastener into the hollow needles, and then through the fabric, Fig. 19, after which the needles retract. A single needle may be used (Figs. 22-25, not shown) to insert the fastener through the fabric so that one tag is on each side. It is described (Figs. 26A, 26B, not shown) how the hydraulic or pneumatic operation of the machine of Fig. 14, is controlled by valves sequenced by the rotation of an electric motor. The sewing device shown in Fig. 27 has a variable needle spacing so that it may match the holes of different buttons 170, Fig: 39, by hingeing on a common spindle 141. Figs. 41 and 42, show a hand-operated sewing tool, in which the stock 59 feeds over wheel 199, as above, and the cutter 215 and rammer 186 are operated by toothed quadrant 184 from the handle. This device may be power-operated.
