Abstract

Wood or other cellulose-containing material is mixed with sulphuric acid up to 85 per cent strength to form a paste which is allowed to stand for some time and then mixed with water, the acid is separated by addition of lime, and the solution is filtered and evaporated to yield dextrin-like bodies. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use of sodium bisulphate in place of sulphuric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Wood or other cellulose-containing material is mixed with sulphuric acid of up to 85 per cent strength to form a paste which is allowed to stand for some time and then mixed with water. The liquid may be boiled for saccharification. Lignin bodies are separated by filtration. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use of sodium bisulphate in place of sulphuric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
