Abstract

1474130 Laminates SHOWA DENKO KK 26 Nov 1974 [30 Nov 1973] 51135/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates may be prepared by interposing between sheet materials films of hot melt adhesive compositions comprising by weight (A) 100 parts of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or a mixture of such copolymer with polyethylene, the copolymer or mixture containing 1 to 40% vinyl acetate, (B) 1 to 100 parts of chlorinated or chlorosulphonated polyethylene, (C) 0À05 to 100 parts of normally solid unsaturated carboxylic acid and (D) 0À005 to 10À0 parts of organic peroxide, optionally together with (E) phenolic antioxidants and/or (F) acid acceptors, and heating the resulting composite under pressure. Examples describe the preparation of laminates from aluminium foil and polyethylene or plasticized polyvinyl chloride films; wood and polyester films; and polyethylene, plasticized polyvinyl chloride and polyester films with copper plates, galvanized iron plates and glass sheets using adhesive compositions comprising (A) ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and optionally polyethylene; (B) chlorinated or chlorosulphonated polyethylene; (C) maleic, fumaric, crotonic, itaconic, citraconic or 2-methylene glutaric acid; (D) t - butyl peroxystearate, dicumyl peroxide 2,5 - dimethylhexane - 2,5 - dihydroperoxide, 2,5 - dimethyl - 2,5 - dibenzoylperoxyhexane, dibenzoyl peroxide or 1,1-bis-t-butylperoxy- 3,3,5 - trimethylcyclohexane; (E) 2,6 - dit - butyl - 4 - methylphenol, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- thio - bis- (3 - methyl - 6 - t - butylphenol), 1,3,5 - trimethyl - 2,4,6 - tris - (3,5 - di - t - butyl - 4- hydroxybenzyl)benzene, 2,2<SP>1 </SP>- methylene - bis- (4 - methyl - 6 - t - butylphenol), 2,6 - di - tbutyl - 4 - methoxyphenol, p - cresol, phenol or pentaerythritol tetrakis - (3,5 - di - t - butyl - 4- hydroxyphenylpropionate); and (F) dibutyl tin maleate, dibutyl tin dilaurate or calcium and barium stearates.
