1473899 Drop dispensing apparatus SHOCK V AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION SYSTEMS Inc 19 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 32115/74 Heading B8N [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for dispensing controlled small quantities of a liquid, e.g. a suspension type lubricant, from a supply comprises liquid circulating means, valved dispensing outlet means in the circulating means, including a discharge conduit of capillary size, and valve opening and closing control means operably associated with the valved dispensing outlet means and capable of momentary opening of the dispensing outlet means and subsequent rapid closing to apply momentary shock impetus to the liquid in the dispensing outlet means for controlled liquid ejection through the capillary conduit. As described lubricant L, Fig. 1, is circulated by a pump 28 through conduits 32b, 32b<SP>1</SP> control valves 16, 16<SP>1</SP> and conduits 44<SP>1</SP>, 44. Each valve, e.g. 16<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, comprises a plunger 64 having a valve element 64<SP>1</SP> urged against a valve seat 78 by a spring 80 and a solenoid coil 62 which when activated raises the plunger. The plunger 64 has axial passageways 64a and a central passageway 70 connected thereto, and the valve housing includes an inlet 88, an outlet 72, and an outlet port 86 communicating with capillary tubes 100. In operation lubricant is continuously circulated through inlet 88, passageways 64a, 70, and outlet 72. When the coil 62 is activated for a few milliseconds by current supplied via an electric switch and timer device the valve is opened and lubricant enters the port 86. The shock created when the valve recloses causes a controlled amount of liquid to be discharged from the free ends of the tubes 100, e.g. on to a conveyer system 18, Fig. 1.
