Abstract

1473648 Container for supporting article therein FIELD SONS & CO Ltd 10 July 1974 [11 July 1973] 33056/73 Heading B8P A container comprises a base (e.g. Fig. 7) and a cover (e.g. Fig. 3), which cover engages upon and at least partially encloses the base; the cover and at least a portion of the base being formed from initially flat blanks; and the base portion including an upper panel 60 for supporting an article to be packaged, e.g. support being provided by provision of an aperture 62 through which the article extends, and a lower panel 72, each having side walls extending towards the other panel, and the panels being rigidly secured together by a pheripheral band 78 positioned around the side walls of the base. As shown the band provides a lip for the cover to seat against whilst enclosing the upper part of the base. The pheripheral band 78 may be an adhesive strip, or a metal band which locks into position (Fig. 6, not shown). The base may contain corrugated board or a block of foamed plastics to prevent the sides collapsing inwardly. The top panel 60 of the base portion may alternatively be formed by a thermoplastics moulding suitably shaped to support the article to be housed (Fig. 12, not shown).
