Abstract

1473345 Automatic gain control OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO Ltd 23 April 1974 [26 April 1973 1 May 1973 22 Aug 1973 24 Aug 1973] 17639/74 Heading H4R In an automatic gain control circuit an f.e.t. 121 is connected in series with the input coupling capacitor 13 of an amplifier 14 with a gain control signal, derived from the output of the amplifier by a circuit including a smoothing capacitor 153, fed to the gate of the f.e.t. A resistor 122 is connected to the output side of the f.e.t. to provide a low resistance charge or discharge path for coupling capacitor 13 to prevent a low frequency oscillation in the gain of the amplifier on first switch on. The resistor may be connected from the output to earth as shown, or from source to drain, Fig. 4 (not shown). A number of f.e.t.'s may be connected in series and brought into operation one after the other, Fig. 6 (not shown). A bipolar transistor may have its collector emitter path connected from the output terminal of f.e.t. 121 to provide additional control variation, fed with either the same control signal or an oppositely poled control signal depending on the relative conductivity types of the f.e.t. and bipolar transistor, Figs. 8 and 10 (not shown). A switch may be provided to earth the control signal line during replay in a record replay amplifier system to prevent surges when switching to record Fig. 11 (not shown).
