Abstract

1473295 Making pressurized aerosol containers AEROFILL Ltd 28 June 1974 [2 July 1973] 31328/73 Heading B3A Apparatus for locating on an open container 16, Fig. 1, an aerosol valve 10 having a dip tube 18 comprises a guide passage 2 for a valve having a retainer 4 through which a dip tube can extend, a feed passage 8 for a valve extending upwardly into the guide passage at an aperture therein, a device to open and close the aperture, and a control device to open and close the retainer 4. The retainer is in the form of a funnel having jaws which can be opened or closed by a pneumatically operable cylinder. An inclined feed tube 8 communicates with an aperture 12 in the wall of a guide tube 2. The apertures is closable by a vertically movable slide valve 14. This may comprise a tube closed at one end or a tube having a port (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the same size and shape as the aperture and which is rotatable in the guide tube. Alternatively, a gate valve (30), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be used to close the aperture. In operation aerosol valves 10 are fed singly down a track 22A, Fig. ure 3, and are driven up the feed tube by compressed air to the valve 14. When the aperture 12 is closed the aerosol valve 10 drops from within the valve 14 to the jaws 6. The jaws are opened to allow the aerosol valve to drop on to the container rim whence it is moved to a crimping station. Piston-rods 28, 30 ensure that only one aerosol valve is present at the bottom of the feed tube at the beginning of each operation. A plurality of apparatuses can be arranged around a central axis and synchronized rotatable starwheels can be used to pass the aerosol valves and open containers to respective feed passages.
