1472761 Drafting apparatus M KAITATZIDIS 24 June 1974 [25 June 1973 14 May 1974] 28074/74 Heading G1X A drafting machine comprises a frame 12, a continuous guide extending around the entire periphery of the frame, a slide element 2 slidable along the guide and bearing an upstanding projection 24, and a drawing instrument, such as a template, setsquare, protractor or ruler 1, having a longitudinal recess or slot 6 to receive the projection such that the instrument can be moved rotationally and translationally relative to the slide element 2. As shown, the guide is a groove 5 engaged by a part of the slide element 2 having a flat and a rounded surface, a magnetic rod 5 retaining the slide element in the groove. The groove may be undercut as in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Alternatively the guide may be constituted by a rib, and the slide element formed with a groove. In other embodiments (not shown) a slide member, has two slide elements formed as pins, (21, 21'), connected by a bridge (22) and engaging the groove, Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), the slide element is a single pin engaging the groove and two bearing surfaces (23, 23') sliding along an abutment edge of the frame, Figs. 16 and 17 (not shown), and the slide element has an elongate member with rounded ends engaging the groove, Figs. 18 and 19 (not shown). A protractor 8 mounted on the slide element 2 may be used to indicate the inclination of the instrument. Another aspect of the drafting machine is claimed in Specification 1472762.
