Abstract

1472115 Automatic control of speed SANKYO SEIKI SEISAKUSHO KK 18 April 1974 [18 April 1973 19 April 1973] 16909/74 Heading G3R A speed control system for a D.C. motor has an analogue loop and a phase control loop using, respectively, a voltage and a frequency proportional to motor speed. If reference frequency pulses and the pulses at a speed dependent frequency alternate, an output of a comparator in the phase control loop switches between two levels, to form an analogue value dependent upon the phase difference between the two pulses, which value is used as a speed control signal. If two reference pulses occur between two motor speed pulses, the output locks to one level until the occurrence of two motor speed pulses between two reference pulses. Similarly if two motor speed pulses occur between two reference pulses, the comparator output locks to the other level. As shown, the phase comparator 25 comprises a pair of flip-flop circuits FF1, FF2 that are cross coupled to form a bi-stable latch counting circuit, the normal and inverted outputs of FF1 being summed by resistors 27 to form the analogue motor control signal. The reference frequency pulses are obtained from multi-vibrator 26 and the actual motor speed signal via a filter (not shown) and shaper 23 from a motor driven tachometer (having a frequency and amplitude proportional to motor speed). The tachometer output is also rectified and filtered to form the motor speed dependent voltage used in the analogue control loop.
