Abstract
1471955 Fluid regulation SORENSON RESEARCH CO Inc 24 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 17900/74 Heading G3H In a variable infusion control device for controlling the flow of a parenteral liquid into a patient, a rotatable control member 44 is positioned between an inlet member 80 having an inlet orifice 94 and an outlet member 12 having an outlet orifice 23. The control member is formed with a part circular capillary groove 60 on opposite faces of an internal radial flange 50, each groove ending at a through port 64. The grooves are covered by non-rotatable seals 32, 70 each having a through bore 38, 72 aligned with orifices 94, 23. If port 64 is positioned in alignment with bores 38, 72 and orifices 94, 23 full flow takes place. If surface 66 of flange 50 is positioned opposite bores 38, 22 no flow takes place and if a portion of the grooves 60 communicate with the bores 38, 72 a throttled flow occurs, the flow-rate depending on the lengths of grooves 60 between the port 64 and the bores 38, 72. In a modification a series of different sized capillary grooves each ending in a through port are formed in each face of the flange 50. In a further modification each capillary groove 60 has a series of spaced different sized restrictions therealong. The members 12, 44 can have co-operating stops (145), (147) or a series of peripheral notches (247) can be formed on the member 12 and co-operate with a resilient finger (245) to lock the member 44 in position.
