Abstract
1471925 Active impedances HEWLETT PACKARD Ltd 9 April 1974 15761/74 Heading H3U Line terminating circuit for connection to a transmission line to permit a D.C. to be drawn therethrough, e.g. to maintain relays establishing the connection, while providing a high A.C. load, comprises a pair of oppositely poled controllable current circuits which are connected across the line and controlled in accordance with the D.C. voltage sensed across the line. Preferably the current is drawn through the emitter collector path of a transistor 10, Fig. 1, or a Darlington pair, Fig. 3, whose base, or control input, is connected to one line terminal by a resistor 14, or 114, and decoupled to the other terminal by a capacitor 16, or 116. In the arrangement of Fig. 3 diodes 120 and 220 prevent current flow through the circuit which is connected in the wrong polarity and diodes 122 and 222 prevent breakdown of capacitors 116 and 216 if they are polarity sensitive.
