Abstract

1471891 Shaft seals BURMAH ENG CO Ltd 25 April 1974 [25 April 1973] 19758/73 Heading F2B A mechanical end face seal comprising a rotatable element 7 spring urged against a stationary element 8, there being a sleeve 11 between the seal elements and the shaft 6, has at least one insulating spacer, 19, a surface between the stationary element and the casing 5. Further insulation, to prevent electrochemical action, may be provided between the element 8 and casing end 16 as at 20, as a backing for the spring 9 as at 21, by a coating on the sleeve as at 22 and a sleeve 18 surrounding a pin 12 preventing rotation of element 8. The insulation may be ceramic or glass filled P.T.F.E. or the surface may be coated or sprayed with such materials. In a second embodiment the rotating element is insulated from the sleeve.
