Abstract
1471705 Moulding sugar lumps CHAMBON Ltd 24 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 46015/74 Heading B5A A machine for moulding sugar comprises a hopper 3 slidable along a table 2 containing an opening for mould boxes 4 from a position where the outlet of the hopper overlies the opening for filling the mould boxes, through a position where a sole plate 11 of the hopper covers the mould boxes while pistons 5a ascend to compress the sugar into cubes, to a position where the mould boxes are uncovered (as shown) and the pistons 5a eject the moulded cubes. On the return movement of the hopper 3 the end of the sole plate 11 pushes the cubes towards a perforated conveyer belt 26 through which hot air is passed for drying. Sugar is fed into the hopper 3 through a shoot 25 and is stirred by toothed shafts 12 driven by engagement of cogs 13 with a rack 14 on one of two guide bars 6 along the side of the table 2. A motor driven shaft 17 powers the hopper linkage 7 via a cam-shaft 16 and the pistons 5a via a cam system 19 comprising two discs (19a, 19b, Fig. 2, not shown), having grooves (21a) on their nearest faces which are engaged by rollers 22a on each end of a cross-member 5 to which the pistons 5a are connected. The middle of the cross-member 5 is supported by rollers (24) bearing on cams (23) mounted on the shaft 17 between the discs (19a, 19b).
