1471584 Lubricants; overbased materials MOBIL OIL CORP 5 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 15253/74 Addition to 1420962 Headings C4X and C5F [Also in Division C2] Novel compounds having detergent and dispersant properties in lubricating oils comprise the alkali metal salts or amides of a gamma butyrolactam acetic acid prepared by reacting a gamma butyrolactone acetic acid ester or thioester having a hydrocarbon substituent on the beta carbon atom, with an amine at elevated temperature. The compounds of the invention may be reacted with a metal salt, e.g. a zinc salt, to give a metal complex which also possesses the detergent and dispersant properties.
