Abstract

1,254,598. Lubricating metal surfaces. ARMOUR INDUSTRIAL CHEMICAL CO. 19 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 8909/69. Heading C5F. Metal surfaces are lubricated with a waterbased lubricant comprising at least 80 p.p.m. by wt. of an amine zwitterion of the formula wherein R is a C 8 -C 22 n alkyl, C 4 -C 22 sec alkyl, C 8 -C 20 tert alkyl or C 12 -C 24 aralkyl group; R 1 is H, Me, Et, Pr or one of the radicals given for R; R 2 is H, Me or Ph; and R 3 is H or Me. Preferred zwitterions are N-coco, N-tallow, N- oleyl or N-phenylstearyl derivatives of #-amino butyric acid. Optional components are quaternary ammonium biocidal compounds, alkali metal borates and nitrites, benzotriazole, methanol, ethanol, ethylene or propylene glycols, carboxymethyl cellulose and alginates.
