Abstract

1471565 Nerve locator device CONCEPT Inc 27 Sept 1974 4209/74 Heading A5R A nerve locator device comprises a housing 12 having a nerve probe needle 14 rotably mounted in one end thereof, and mounted in the housing and in respective series electrical contact with the probe needle are a current regulator 48, a battery 18, a light bulb 68, and a flexible insulated conductor 22 attached to a grounding needle 24 whereby in use the grounding needle 24 is placed into subcutaneous tissue and probe 32 is used to explore an incision, contact with nerve tissue causing a reaction of the corresponding muscle, and the device may be tested by inserting the grounding needle through an aperture 26, to short-circuit the battery and light the light bulb 68. The current regulator comprises a manifold 50 in which are mounted resistors 56 which may be selectively contacted by the end 36 of the probe by rotation of the insulating retainer 3,4. An index mark 42 on the insulating retainer 34 corresponds with a scale on the housing to indicate the resistor being used. Alternatively the current regulator may be a potentiometer, Fig. 2 (not shown).
