Abstract

1471250 Furnace hoods HAWLEY MFG CORP 31 Oct 1975 45492/75 Heading F4X A furnace hood 13 comprises two sections 17 and 19 adapted to be swung outwardly about hinges 18 and 20 to define a lateral entry 21 to the interior of the hood for the passage of a charging bucket 48 when the furnace 10 is to be charged, and spring or damper means associated with a movable section 25 of the roof 15 of the hood and positioned to absorb any lateral momentum of the bucket and correctly locate the bucket above the mouth 12 of the furnace. The reciprocably movable roof section 25 carries a depending skirt 26 to which bumper pads 27, 28 presenting vertical faces 29, 30 are secured. A subframe (31, Fig. 2) including vertical posts 38 and 39 is disposed behind the skirt 26, and housings 40 and 44 providing guideways for bumper pins 41 and 45 formed with bumper heads 42 and 46 are secured to the posts 38 and 39. The bumper heads 42 and 46 are aligned with the pad surfaces 29 and 30 and a coiled compression spring 43 or 47 is located between each bumper head and the associated guide housing. The hood roof 15 is also formed with an opening sized and shaped to conform to the charging bucket 48, said opening being closed during normal operation of the furnace by a movable cover 51 which is linked via a pin 53 to the furnace lid (not shown) so that the cover 51 and lid move together about the axis of a post 50; the roof 15 is formed with an arcuate slot 54 to accommodate movement of the pin 53. The interior of the hood 13 is connected to a source of vacuum by a conduit 14.
