Abstract
1470971 Maximum and minimum thermometer S BRANNAN & SONS Ltd 12 June 1974 [19 April 1973] 19165/73 Heading G1D A maximum and minimum thermometer comprises a U-shaped capillary tube 1 containing two magnetic indices 9, 10 one in each limb so as to be movable to indicate the maximum and minimum temperatures by a mercury column 11 which is itself moved by a thermometric liquid other than mercury, there being further provided at least one scale 5, 6 to which the indices 9, 10 are magnetically attracted so as to be retained at the measured temperatures. In the preferred embodiment, the scale or scales 5, 6 is or are mounted on a holder 3 within a recessed portion of a back plate 2 on which is mounted the U-tube 1 by means of a bottom stop 2A and bridges 27, Fig. 3 (not shown). A push button 4 allows depression of the holder 3 against the action of springs 25, 26 until flanges, 16, 17 abut plate 2. The indices 9, 10 being spaced from the scale or scales, 5, 6 are then allowed to fall under gravity to the respective mercury surface.
