Abstract

1470829 Pneumatic tyre bead constructions DUNLOP Ltd 18 April 1974 [20 April 1973] 16960/74 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre comprising a radial carcass ply 5 and a bead core 7 in each bead, is provided in each bead with a folded chafer 11 which extends radially outwardly beyond the edge of the associated ply turn-up. The steel cord fabric of each chafer is less rigid than that of the carcass ply 5, and the cords in the chafer are preferably disposed at an angle of 15-30 degrees to the circumferential axis of the associated bead core. A secondary reinforcing ply of cords of textile material, e.g. nylon or polyester, may be situated in each bead axially outwardly of the chafer. The chafer may be arranged as illustrated in Fig. 2 or in Fig. 3.
