Abstract
1470621 Endless chain conveyers; roller conveyers VULCAN ENG CO 28 Jan 1975 [14 Feb 1974] 3584/75 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] Bricks for lining a metallurgical vessel are moved vertically on a conveyer mounted on a tower depending within the vessel (Fig. 1) to a second horizontal conveyer at an adjustable height and the second conveyer is adjustable to move the bricks to container wall. The first conveyer comprises two pairs of endless chains 28, 30, running in the same plane on the return run, and below the adjustable discharge point, but spaced apart on the upper part of the down run so that folding pallets 46 lie horizontally between rods 51 secured to the chassis. To prevent interference on the return run, the inner pair of chains 28, Fig. 7, have U-shaped links 47 to allow passage of the rods 51 secured to the outer chains 30. The sprockets 31 around which the chains 28 run have spaced teeth to avoid interference from the links 47. A frame 44, Fig. 2, adjustable in height by cables 49, carries sprockets on shafts 45, 40 and 42 around which chains 28 run to carry one end of the pallet horizontally and then rearwardly to the lower part of them. The other end of the pallet is carried by chains 30 round sprockets on shafts 38, 40 and 42 so that it is folded at the lower part of the run. The second conveyer 54 is mounted on the frame 44, the outermost rollers 64, 66 and an adjusting roller 68 being movable by a rack and pinion operated by crank handle to adjust the horizontal extent of the second conveyer belt 56. Bricks are delivered to a pallet at the top of the tower from tilted roller tables 86, Fig. 6, which rotate faster than the slowly rotating tower and conveyer. A delivery roller way 84 transfer bricks over a control roller way to tables 86, which are provided with cam operated gates so that bricks are only delivered when a tube 86 is preferably aligned with a conveyer pallet 46. An incline with rollers 94 guides each brick through a gap in a raised shoulder 90 surrounding the inner edge of the table 86 and secured to the tower in alignment with the conveyer. The control roller way 98, Fig. 11, comprises driven rollers 100, free rollers 101 and rollers 102 liftable by a pneumatic cylinder. Photo-electric sensors 106, Figs. 8 and 12, co-operate with mirrors 108, Fig. 12 on the tables 86 so that as an empty table 86 approaches the control conveyer the rollers 102 are lowered to enable the driven rollers 100 to feed a brick to the table 86. A gate 110 on each table 86 is lowered only when the table reaches the gap in the shoulder 90, and carries a shutter 112 which blocks the mirrors 108 when the conveyer 84, control conveyer 98, table 86 and pallet 46 are aligned to prevent a brick being fed directly from conveyer 84 on to a pallet to cause jamming. A sensor 114, Fig. 11, controls the pneumatic cylinder to lift the rollers 102 when a brick has been fed from the control conveyer 98 to prevent a brick fed by gravity from the supply conveyer 84 passing directly over the control conveyer 98.
