Abstract

1470239 Automatic control of voltage and speed ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 17 May 1974 [18 May 1973] 21955/74 Headings G3R and G3X The voltage delivered to an A.C. load is regulated by adjusting the firing angle of a triac in dependence on the value of a supply voltage. Charging current is diverted from a firing capacitor by means of two proportional amplifiers controlled by the supply voltage, one amplifier being provided for each polarity of the supply voltage. As shown, a series-wound motor 50 is supplied over a triac 9 from an A.C. source U 1 . A firing capacitor 8 is charged at a rate determined by a variable resistor 7 by a squarewave voltage produced by a resistor 6 and Zener diodes 20, 21, until a trigger device 10 breaks down and the triac 9 conducts. A proportion of the charging current is diverted from the capacitor 8 through transistors 12, 15, biased on during alternate half-cycles. The amount of current diverted is determined partly by a voltage taken from a potentiometer 19 responsive to the supply voltage U 1 , and partly by a voltage received from resistors 51, 52 and indicative of the back e.m.f. of the motor 50, so that both the voltage supplied to the motor and its speed are regulated. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), a two-terminal network similar to that shown in Fig. 5 is used to regulate the load voltage.
