Abstract

1470204 Automatic control systems MASCHINENFABRIK HEID AG 13 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 40103/74 Heading G3N In a cam controlled machine tool e.g. a lathe, pulses are produced in response to rotation of the machine feed and passed through a gate, to a comparator, according to the movement of a tool of the machine as measured by cam switches. These pulses are compared with a desired value as set on decade switches, and the movement of the machine tool slide is stopped when they are equal. As shown, cam switches 9, 11 are driven by the tool longitudinal and cross feed mechanisms, and tachometer 12, 13 driven by the tool feed rod 7. At a pre-set position of the tool i.e. of switches 9, 11, gate 15 is opened to allow tachometer pulse to comparator 16. When the sum of these pulses reaches a value set on decade switches 17, an electromagnetic clutch 20 is opened to stop the tool advance. Switches 17 are set according to a trial run, and may be reset so as to compensate for tool wear.
