Abstract

1469959 1 - Perfluoroalkyl - 1,2 - ethanediols CIBA-GEIGY AG 24 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 27941/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division D1] 1 - Perfluoroalkyl - 1,2 - ethanediols of general formula wherein R is a C 4-17 perfluorinated or #-H- perfluorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical and R 1 is H or CH 3 , are prepared (a) by hydrolysis of perfluoroalkylethandiols of general formulµ either singly or in admixture under acid conditions or (b) by acid or alkaline hydrolysis of a perfluoroalkyl epoxide of general formula Amongst the examples the compound is prepared. 1 - Perfluorooctyl - 1 - hydroxy - 2 - acetoxy ethane is prepared by reacting perfluorooctyl ethylene oxide and glacial acetic acid in the presence of triethylamine.
