Abstract
1469647 Fibre - reinforced cementitious materials PORTLAND ZEMENTWERKE HEIDELBERG AG 19 March 1974 [3 May 1973] 12171/74 Heading C1H A reinforced moulded material which has been hardened by the hydration of an hydraulic cement (e.g. Portland cement or gypsum) contained therein comprises as reinforcement mineral fibre bundles which pass right through the material and have been treated before being embedded in the material by the impregnation thereof by, and the subsequent hardening therein of, a hardenable liquid or an hydraulic cement paste (e.g. a suspension of calcium hydroxide). The mineral fibre is defined as being a vitreous siliceous fibre, e.g. glass fibre. The term "hardenable liquid" is defined as being organic-liquidhardenable resin or a melt of a glass, ceramic, metal or metal alloy. By "passing through the material" is meant that the bundles, which are continuous bundles or discontinuous groups of shorter bundles (preferably overlapping with each other) embedded in substantially the same direction, have an overall length equal to the length of moulded and hardened material. Dispersing, pore-forming, decelerating, accelerating, compacting or adhesion-improving additives may be present within the material during the hardening process. The pH of the pore water within the material may be reduced by the incorporation of carbon dioxide or an additive into the material before hardening. The material may contain transverse reinforcement which consists either of similar fibre bundles or of shorter mineral fibres or other fibres. It may also contain woven fabric, layers or mats of mineral fibres or of other fibres. The fibre bundles may be embedded by inserting and/or by drawing-in and/or by coiling the fibres. The position of the fibres in the cross-section of the bundle before embedding may be adjusted so that each of the fibres lies on the outer surface of each fibre bundle at regular intervals along the length and contacts and bonds with the material in sections. In an example, a reinforced material is formed from cement, water, endless glass silk treated in accordance with the invention, and sand.
