Abstract

1469577 UDPG. 2Na YAMASA SHOYU KK 6 Nov 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 48001/74 Heading C2P Crystalline uridine-51-diphosphate glucose disodium salt, which when defined by specified X-ray data is claimed per se, is produced by sequentially: (a) preparing a saturated solution of said salt in a mixture of water and a hydrophilic organic solvent at a pH of 1-9; (b) bringing the solution to the point of turbidity or incipient turbidity by either (i) adding more of the same or a different hydrophilic organic solvent or (ii) cooling; and (c) allowing the desired product to precipitate at a temperature which is constant (e.g. room temperature- 70‹ C.) or which falls at not more than 5‹ C./hr. Step (a) is preferably effected by gradually adding the organic solvent to an aqueous solution of said salt containing 3-70 wt. per cent thereof, and, by continuing said addition, may be combined with variant (i) of step (b). Step (c) may be effected with or without stirring, seeding or further additions of organic solvent. Specificed solvents are C 1-4 alkanols, ethylene glycol, tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, acetone and mixtures thereof.
