Abstract
1469405 Burners UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 18 March 1974 [2 April 1973] 15763/73 Heading F4T [Also in Division G3] A fluidic device has first and second main fluid flow ports 13, 14, a vortex chamber 10 and at least one further port 15, 16 for directing a tangential control flow into the chamber 10 to create a vortex therein, whereby main flow in a forward direction from the first port 13 to the second port 14 is substantially unimpeded but main flow in the reverse direction is impeded or even prevented by the vortex. The control flow may be angled in the forward direction by 5 degrees. Control flow pressure may be increased when the device functions in the reverse flow state. The device may be used in combustion systems or flame stacks to impart swirl to forward flowing fuel but act as a flame trap if flash back occurs.
