Abstract

1469323 Vehicle doors BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 23 May 1974 [6 June 1973] 23114/74 Heading B7J A door 1 in a motor vehicle has reinforcement in the form of a longitudinally extending corrugated rail 3 supported by a bracing member 4 which abuts a portion 5 of a sill 2 or other door frame part when the door is closed so as to enhance passenger protection in the event of a lateral impact on the vehicle. As shown, the rail 3 is carried by an outer door panel 8 and has a bottom flange 17 which is mounted on rubber padding 20 and from which extends the member 4 of shallow V-section with corrugations 26, crests 27 of the corrugations 26 extending in a straight line from the joint at flange 17 to a joint at 25 of the member 4 to the bottom edge 12 of inner door panel 7. As well as the illustrated bracing member 4 abutting the sill flange portion 5 via panel 7, the ends of rail 3 may be braced by further members abutting against flanges of the door posts. The bracing member 4 and the rail 3 may be formed integrally with one another if space is very restricted.
