Abstract

1469265 Hair dyeing process and comÀ position NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 25 Nov 1974 [6 Dec 1973] 50960/74 Heading D1B Hair is coloured by treating with an acid dye in aqueous solution in the presence of a water-soluble cationic polymer selected from water-soluble acid salts of non-quaternised aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl and dialkylaminoalkyl esters of homo- and copolymers of polymerisable unsaturated carboxylic acids having 3 to 5 carbon atoms, said acid dye being present in said aqueous solution in a concentration of from 0.01 to 1% by weight and said cationic polymer being applied as an aqueous solution containing from 0.1 to 10.0% of said polymer. The preferred pH of the compositions used is pH 3 to 5 and a preservative to eliminate bacterial growth may also be included. The cationic polymer may be selected from phosphate salts of poly(aminoethylacrylate), poly(aminoethyl - hydroxypro - pylacrylate) and terpolymers of an aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, an amide of such an acid and a hydroxyalkyl ester of such a carboxylic acid, the cationic polymer having a molecular weight of 25000 to 250000. Hair may be treated (A) aqueous solution of cationic polymer (B) is washed with water (C) treated with the aqueous solution of acid dye and is rinsed and dried.
