Abstract

1469137 Flame retardant polypropylene compositions BASF AG 30 July 1974 [31 July 1973] 33518/74 Addition to 1468695 Heading C3P Flame retardant moulding compositions comprise by weight (a) 100 parts of a polymer containing at least 50 weight per cent of propylene, (b) 0À5 to 9 parts of an aliphatic bromohydrocarbon containing at least 45 weight per cent of bromine, (c) 0À2 to 7 parts of antimony trioxide, (d) 0À05 to 3 parts of organic phosphite and (e) 0À2 to 6 parts of a mixture of (1) 20 to 80 weight per cent of C 4-12 alkane polyol containing 4 to 12 hydroxyl groups and which is present in solid aggregate form in temperatures up to at least 100‹ C., and (2) 80 to 20 weight per cent of a diisopropyl benzene dehydrooligomer having a degree of oligomerization of 5 to 32 and containing meta and para units in a weight ratio of 8 : 1 to 5 : 4, optionally together with (f) 0À01 to 3 parts of a mixture of 25 to 40 weight per cent of barium laurate and 75 to 60 weight per cent of cadmium laurate. Preferred components are (a) polypropylene, (b) 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexabromocyclododecane, (d) mixtures of trisnonylphenyl phosphite and diphenyl isooctyl phosphite and (e) (1) pentacrythritol.
