Abstract

1,270,318. Flame-resistant polypropylene compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 2 Sept., 1969 [3 Sept., 1968], No. 43373/69. Heading C3P. Flame-resistant moulding materials comprise by weight (a) 100 parts of a propylene polymer containing at least 50 per cent of propylene units (b) 0.5 to 9 parts of an aliphatic bromohydrocarbon containing at least 45 per cent combined bromine, (c) 0À2 to 7 parts of antimony trioxide with or without (d) up to 3 parts of an organic phosphite, the material also comprising (e) 0À2 to 6 parts of a mixture of 20 to 80 per cent of an alkane polyol containing 4 to 12 carbon atoms and 4 to 12 hydroxyl groups and which is solid at temperatures up to 100‹ C., and 80 to 20 per cent of a substance of formula where m is 0 or 1 to 5, n is 0 or 1 to 4, o is 0 or 1 to 5, p is 0 or 1 to 200 and R is C 1-4 alkyl, Cl or Br provided that no benzene nucleus bears more than three halogen atoms. Many suitable polyols are specified and examples describe compositions of polypropylene, 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexabromocyclododecane, antimony trioxide, trinonylphenyl phosphite, pentaerythritol and (1) dicumyl and (2) a compound in which m, n and o are 0 and p is 30. The compositions may be moulded into pipes and pipe fittings.
